How does ID verification work?

Updated

Quick answer

Fill in Basic details on your verification page, then upload photos of your ID with a handwritten note of our name, and our team reviews them.

Fill in Basic details on your verification page, then upload photos of your ID document next to a piece of paper with our name written on it in capital letters. Our team reviews your photos and marks the step Completed once it approves them, and you can then add a proof of address the same way.

What do I need for ID verification?

  • To be 18 or over.
  • Your details, exactly as they appear on your document: your first and last name, country, place of birth, date of birth and home address.
  • A government identity document you can photograph clearly, front and back.
  • A piece of paper with our name written on it in capital letters, the way the verification page shows it, placed next to your document in the photo.
  • Your photos as PNG or JPG files. The page shows how many images you can add and how large each one can be.

For the Proof of address step, you also need a utility bill or bank statement issued within the last 3 months, showing the same name and address you entered.

How do I submit my ID?

  1. Open your verification page. Each step opens once the step before it is done, and a step that is not open yet shows Locked.
  2. Fill in Basic details and press Save details. The page says Details saved.
  3. Open ID verification, press Choose an image and pick your photos of the front and back of your document, with the paper next to it in the picture.
  4. Press Upload image. The page says Documents submitted for review.
  5. Add your proof of address the same way, once ID verification is Completed, and press Upload document.

Our team might ask for one more photo, such as a selfie of you holding your document and the paper, and the verification page tells you when that happens.

Why was my ID submission sent back?

The verification page tells you why your ID submission was sent back, under We could not approve this document or We need this document again, and you can upload again straight away:

  • The photo was hard to read, because it was blurry, cropped or had a glare on it. Take a sharper photo with all four corners in view.
  • The details did not match the name, date of birth or address on the document. Correct your Basic details, then upload the document again.
  • The document was the wrong kind for that step, such as a bill on the ID step.
  • The document was too old. A proof of address has to be issued within the last 3 months.
  • The paper with our name was missing from the photo. Take the picture again with the paper next to your document.
  • We could not confirm that the document is yours. Upload a clear photo of your own document, or tell our support team if you think this is a mistake.

What happens after my ID is approved?

The step shows Completed, and the next step opens. Verifying is always your choice, because you do not need ID to withdraw. Verifying never changes your limits or your withdrawal methods.
