What happens to crypto sent to the wrong address?
What happens depends on the address you entered:
- The address is not valid for the coin and network. The withdrawal window tells you so before you confirm, so you can correct the address.
- The address is valid, but it belongs to someone else. The crypto goes to exactly that address, as every crypto payment does, which is why the address check before you confirm protects your money.
- The address is yours, but on another network. Some wallets can bring the crypto back, and the next section says what to try.
I sent crypto to the wrong network, can it be recovered?
Sometimes, depending on your wallet. Your wallet only sees payments on the networks it supports, so crypto sent to your address on another network does not show in your wallet. Some wallets use the same address on several networks, and adding the other network in the wallet can sometimes recover the crypto.
- Check the status on your withdrawals page, and look at the withdrawal's Network.
- If the withdrawal shows Pending, ask our support team to cancel it.
- If the withdrawal has been sent, contact your wallet's support team with the coin, the network it was sent on and your address, and ask whether the crypto can be recovered.
What if I typed the wrong email for PayPal, the virtual Visa or a gift card?
You do not type an email or an address for any payout method except crypto, so there is nothing to get wrong. The claim link or the code is on your withdrawals page behind Reveal reward, whatever email your account has. If the email on your account is wrong, change the email on your account.
How do I avoid a wrong address or network next time?
- Copy the address from your wallet app instead of typing it, and paste it exactly as your wallet shows it.
- Compare the first few and the last few characters of the address in the window with the address in your wallet.
- Check the network in your wallet first, and choose the same Network in the withdrawal window.
- Save the address under a name once it has worked, so you choose the saved address next time.
- Try a small amount with a new wallet, at the network's minimum, before you send more.
