Do I get paid if a survey screens me out?
Updated
A screenout sometimes pays, because each survey partner decides whether a screenout pays, and a paid screenout shows in your task history like other rewards.
Sometimes, because each survey partner decides whether its screenouts pay, and a screenout that pays earns less than a finished survey. A screenout that pays shows in your task history like any other reward once the partner confirms it.
What is a screenout?
A screenout is a survey ending early because you are not in the group the research company is studying, which is also called a disqualification. A screenout usually happens during the first few questions, before the main part of the survey starts.
When a screenout pays nothing, the survey can show in your task history with a reward of zero, because the partner recorded that you took part in it.
A screenout is not the same as a missing reward: if you finished the whole survey and it did not pay, report the missing survey reward.
Why did the survey screen me out?
A research company pays for answers from a particular group of people, so each survey is looking for someone specific. A survey screens you out for one of these reasons:
- You are not in the group the survey is studying. A survey about car insurance might want only drivers, and a survey about baby food might want only parents.
- The survey already has enough answers from people like you. A survey stops taking people from a group once it has all the answers it needs from them, sometimes while you are answering the first questions.
- Your answers did not fit together. Survey partners run their own quality checks, and an answer that does not match an earlier one can end a survey.
Your answers in your survey profile help partners show you the surveys you fit.
Was the screenout something I did wrong?
A screenout is usually nothing you did wrong, because it means the research company needed someone else for that survey. If surveys screen you out again and again, a few habits help you qualify for more surveys.
Why do some surveys end after many questions?
A survey can end late when a later question shows that you are outside its group, or when the survey fills up while you are answering. A quality check that finds answers that do not fit together can end a survey late too, and whether a late screenout pays anything depends on the partner.
After a survey that paid nothing, we might ask you what went wrong with the survey. Your answer helps us show you surveys that suit you better.
