Can I change my referral code?

Updated

Quick answer

Yes, you can change your referral code on the affiliates page and press Save, and your tier, your rate and your referrals all stay with you.

Yes, you can change your referral code: type a new code under Your referral code on your affiliates page and press Save. Your tier, your rate, your commission and the friends you already referred all stay with you, and only your referral link changes.

  1. Open your affiliates page and find Your referral code.
  2. Type the new code you want, such as a name people will remember.
  3. Press Save. The page says Referral code updated, and your Referral link now uses the new code.

Which referral codes are not allowed?

A referral code has between 3 and 20 characters, made of lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens, and it starts and ends with a letter or a number. What you type is turned to lowercase for you. The page refuses a code when:

  • The code does not fit that format, such as a code with spaces or a hyphen at the end.
  • The code is already taken by another member.
  • The code is not available, because some words are reserved and nobody can choose them.
  • The code contains inappropriate language.

What happens to my tier when I change my code?

Your tier stays the same, because your tier and rate come from the commission you have claimed, and your referrals are linked to your account rather than to the text of your code. Commission waiting in your Claimable balance stays there too.

A link with your old code no longer counts for you, so someone who signs up through the old link does not become your referral. Update your referral link everywhere you have shared the old one, such as your profiles, posts and messages, so that every friend who signs up through it becomes your referral.

Your old code also becomes free once you change it, so another member can choose your old code.

Can I go back to my old referral code?

Yes, as long as nobody else has chosen that code since. Type your old code under Your referral code again and press Save, and links with that code count for you again, including the ones you shared before the change. If another member has taken your old code since you changed it, the page says the code is already taken, and you need a different code.
